Student Affairs graphic designer wins TNT network's T-shirt contest

While vacationing at Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, this summer, Carol Barnao came across a TNT promotion for a T-shirt design contest for the network’s popular crime drama “Animal Kingdom,” which happens to be one of her favorite television shows.

When Keion Crossen and Detrez Newsome chose to come to Western Carolina University to play football, it wasn’t because they thought Cullowhee was going to be the fast track to the NFL. After all, the last time a Catamount was selected in the NFL draft was 1994.

They traded Western North Carolina for central Washington, where he farmed and she taught school. When it came time to settle their affairs and with no children of their own, Harold and Henrietta Saltz Anderson looked homeward, to North Carolina.

Western Carolina University clarinetist Shannon Thompson and pianist Lillian Pearson will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, in the recital hall of the Coulter Building on the WCU campus.

Recital scheduled to mark Ulrich's 30th anniversary on campus

Entegra Bank announces $250,000 contribution for scholarship effort

In recognition that more than 20% of Entegra Bank's workforce in Western North Carolina graduated from WCU, the financial institution's board of directors announced a $250,000 contribution to provide scholarship assistance to students from the region who want to study in WCU's College of Business.

It’s beginning to sound like a broken record, this talk of broken records when it comes to enrollment at Western Carolina University where, for the third consecutive year and the seventh time in the past eight years, the institution is experiencing increases in both the size and academic qualifications of its student body.

Metcalfe invited to give presentation at World Nursing Congress

Sharon Metcalfe, associate professor in WCU’s School of Nursing, was invited to present her work on “Social Determinants and Educational Barriers for Minority and Rural Students for Nursing School Admission” on Aug. 29 at the 17th annual World Nursing Congress in Zurich, Switzerland.
