A trumpet duet with piano accompaniment recognizing 30 years of teaching and service will be presented on campus by Western Carolina University’s School of Music on Tuesday, Sept. 11.
The recital will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the recital hall of the Coulter Building. Admission is free and the event is open to the public.
Bradley Ulrich, WCU professor of trumpet, is celebrating 30 years with the university and the recital is in recognition of the achievement. He will be joined on trumpet by Eric Yates, an associate professor of music at the University of Alabama, and by pianist Lillian Pearson, WCU adjunct professor of music. Featured works will include compositions by Joseph Turrin, Joseph Horovitz, Erik Morales, Kevin McKee, Bruce Frazier and Astor Piazzolla.
Ulrich’s 30th anniversary isn’t limited to this one performance. Also scheduled are a guest recital by Paul Merkelo, principal trumpet of the Montreal Symphony, Thursday, April 25, and visits to the WCU campus by Warburton Music Products and Bach/Selmer instrument manufacturers. Ulrich also will lead WCU Trumpet Ensemble performances at the Trumpet Festival of the Southeast in Atlanta in January and the WCU Trumpet Studio at a June trumpet festival in Orvieto, Italy.
