Homecoming 2021 to be ‘Roaring with Pride’

“Roaring with Pride” will be the theme for Homecoming 2021 at Western Carolina University, with a variety of festivities scheduled from Thursday, Oct. 7, through Sunday, Oct. 10. Highlights include the homecoming game against Mercer, performances by the Pride of the Mountains Marching Band, a series of alumni brunches, tailgating parties, and receptions, plus tours of the new, state-of-the-art Apodaca Science Building along with the traditional parade through downtown Sylva.

University seeks public feedback in updating its campus master plan

WCU is in the process of updating its 2014 Campus Master Plan and will hold two virtual forums to allow for public feedback.

Program for the Study of Developed Shorelines hits $5 million mark in grants

A $5 million milestone recently was achieved by the Program for the Study of Developed Shorelines for grants received to support its research and work.

School of Nursing ranked number one in state by educational almanac

The School of Nursing has been ranked first in the state by the Nursing Schools Almanac research team, in part for achieving an almost perfect rate of graduates passing the NCLEX on their first attempt.

The Many Facets of Science

The newest jewel to adorn the campus of Western Carolina University is the cutting-edge, futuristic, uniquely organic Apodaca Science Building. Housing programs ranging from biology and chemistry to physics and forensic science, the building replaces the aging Natural Science Building which was built in the 1970s.
