Student Democracy Coalition achieves more than voter registration

An on-campus polling place for early voting will be located in the Multipurpose Room of A.K. Hinds University Center, weekdays Feb. 13 to Feb. 28, from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, Feb. 29, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Spring semester enrollment hits all-time high; graduate, transfer, distance numbers all up

Just a year after Western Carolina University’s spring enrollment surpassed 11,000 for the first time in the institution’s history, the tally for the current spring semester has hit another seasonal record, with a total of 11,434 students.

A different hunger games held for participating North Carolina university students

The Collegiate Hunger Challenge takes place through April 25, with points earned based on activities centered around collecting and donating food for neighbors in need or hunger awareness.

Liz Murray, the subject of Lifetime Television’s Emmy-nominated original film “Homeless to Harvard,” is the keynote speaker for Western Carolina University’s ceremony honoring those on the 2019 fall semester chancellor’s list.

Physical therapy project gains support from Parkinson’s Foundation

The WCU project will develop academic collaborations with community partners to provide physical therapy students with skills to better assist people with Parkinson’s and their care partners.

WCU dance team coaches create scholarship in memory of former member

To honor former WCU student Amber Parker, her former dance team coaches — Jessica Graning, Lindsi Cauley and Amy Manshack — created the Amber Parker Memorial Annual Scholarship, which offers $1,000 in scholarship support to a qualifying dance team member each year.

WCU Board of Trustees passes resolution urging passage of state budget, raises for faculty, staff

The Western Carolina University Board of Trustees approved a resolution in support of a rapid conclusion to a months-long impasse between the General Assembly and Gov. Roy Cooper that has tied up salary increases for faculty and staff, delayed funding for a replacement to WCU’s aging steam plant and forced university officials to consider slowing enrollment growth.
