Symphonic Band to present concert, premiere commissioned work

Titled “The Earth…Our Only Home,” the concert will include the premiere of “Full Circle,” an original work by composer Ryan George.   


North Carolina poet laureate Jaki Green to read, discuss her works

The first African American to be appointed as the state’s poet laureate, she also is a member of the North Carolina Literary Hall of Fame and a recipient of the North Carolina Award for Literature.   


International tuba soloist to perform guest artist recital on campus

WCU's Low Brass Festival will present special guest Oystein Baadsvik for a performance Sunday, Oct. 27, in the recital hall of the Coulter Building.

Historian Chris Woolley to give talk on deforestation in colonial Mexico

His talk is titled “The Forests Cannot Be Commons: Spanish Law, Environment Change and New Spain’s Council on Forests.”

The rainy weekend weather predicted across the mountains of Western North Carolina has forced organizers of the 19th annual Tournament of Champions to move activities indoors Saturday, Oct. 19, at Western Carolina University.   


David Kinner named interim dean of College of Arts and Sciences

A member of the faculty since 2006, he has been serving as associate dean of the college since 2014.   


Jane Schulz, special education pioneer on WCU faculty, passes at 95

The recipient of an honorary doctorate of humane letters at WCU in 2012, she died Oct. 3 at her home in Kingsport, Tennessee.
