It was Halloween weekend and Western Carolina University freshman Cassidy Burns was visiting a friend at Clemson University when she got a phone call from her mother. Burns and her friend were in Starbucks when her phone rang. Her mom told her to check out Twitter where the Foundation of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences was live-streaming its 4th Annual National Student Production Awards.
Exhibiting artist talks will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, in Room 130 of the Bardo Arts Center, with a reception following from 5 to 7 p.m.

Contributions will be accepted to help support Sylva American Legion Post 104's local youth programs.
Activities planned for the spring semester include a luncheon celebrating both the WCU group’s new status within AAUW and the installation of Kelli R. Brown as chancellor of the university.
A jam session will follow the 7 p.m. performance by Jared “Blue” Smith and Aaron Plantenberg.
The primary meeting will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6, in the board room of H.F. Robinson Administration Building.
The session is set for 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, at the university’s Biltmore Park location in Asheville.
She will assume her duties at the private institution in Virginia beginning in July of 2020.
