Second edition of García-Castañón’s novel published in Spain
The second (and first bilingual) edition of a novel by Santiago García-Castañón, “Vida y fabulosas aventuras de Pedro Menéndez de Avilés (The Life and Fabulous Adventures of Pedro Menénedez de Avilés),”was published in Spain in July.
Written in the first-person in 16th-century Spanish, it is a historical novel about the Spanish seaman and explorer who founded the city of St. Augustine, Florida, in 1565.
García-Castañón is a professor of Spanish in WCU’s Department of World Languages. He also gave the following presentations:
“Pedro Menéndez entre la historia y la ficción,” an invited lecture for the Asociacion Cultural La Serrana in Aviles, Spain, on July 8.
“Las huellas de Erató y otros poemas,” a poetry reading at the Art Street Festival inAvilés on July 18.
“Spain: From Franco and Fascism to a Modern Democracy,” an invited lecture at the Center for Life Enrichment in Highlands on Aug. 19.
