Students representing Western Carolina University’s Belcher College of Fine and Performing Arts have been sharing their talents across the region since May through the college’s Roadworks outreach program, which provides family friendly performances for local organizations.
The students from the musical theatre program in WCU’s School of Stage and Screen – Callista Brown, Kelley Stancil, Benjamin Reilly and Matt Howie – are featured in a “Summer of 2019 Musical Review.” The production manager is Stage and Screen student Jasmine Herbert. Kristen Hedberg, WCU assistant professor of musical theatre, is the group’s adviser.
The college began offering the free programs in 2016 with Stage and Screen students presenting “The Complete Works of Shakespeare Abridged.” School of Music students were featured in a variety show in 2017, and in 2018, School of Art and Design students provided an “Art Trailer.” This year’s musical review includes popular works from “Wicked,” “Pippin” and other contemporary musicals.
