Regional primary care providers attend conference at Biltmore Park
Approximately 80 primary care providers from across Western North Carolina attended a daylong professional development conference, “A Collection of Primary Care Practice Conundrums,” on May 31 at the Hilton at Biltmore Park.

The providers – nurse practitioners and physicians’ assistants – were joined at the event by WCU family nurse practitioner students. The program featured Margaret Fitzgerald, a nationally known speaker and founder of Fitzgerald Health Education Associates, an international provider of nurse practitioner certification preparation and continuing education for health care providers.
“The title of the conference sums up the essence of the complex focus of the day,” said Tamera Pearson, professor in WCU’s School of Nursing. “In today’s health care system, primary care providers have a very challenging job that requires them to maintain currency on evidence for their practice. Also, students training to step into these roles need excellent mentoring and professional socialization.”
