Outdoor conference providing discounted rates for WCU community

The second annual Outdoor Economy Conference will be held Thursday, Oct. 10, at the Crowne Plaza Resort in Asheville.

WCU hosted the inaugural OEC on campus in Cullowhee in 2018 and is an integral member of the Growing Outdoors Partnership that supports the regional outdoor industry and is working to help grow Western North Carolina’s outdoor economy.

WCU students, faculty and staff are invited to attend the Southeast’s premier outdoor conference at significantly discounted rates ranging from 65 percent off for WCU faculty and staff up to 75 percent off for WCU students.

The theme of this year’s conference is “Building an Outdoor Economy” and will focus on four key building blocks essential for outdoor recreation to be an economic driver: workforce development, branding and marketing, supply chain development and identifying recreation assets and infrastructure.

The conference agenda and related information is available at https://outdooreconomy.org/ and tickets can be purchased at this web page. To unlock the special reduced registration rates, current WCU faculty and staff should enter promotional code OUTDOORPRO. WCU students should enter the promotional code STUDENTDEAL when purchasing tickets and be prepared to show their WCU student ID when checking-in on the day of the conference.

For more information, contact WCU’s outdoor industry faculty liaisons, Andy Coburn (acoburn@wcu.edu) or Wes Stone (wstone@wcu.edu).
