Students from Western Carolina University’s Parks and Recreation Management Program are joining with the Jackson County Parks and Recreation Department to offer Greenday @ the Greenway, a free, family friendly event Sunday, May 5, at the county greenway off Old Cullowhee Road.
Activities are set for 2 to 5 p.m., with parking at the greenway’s Locust Creek and Monteith Branch access points.
WCU students taking a course in “Management and Administration of PRM” taught by Debby Singleton, an instructor in the Parks and Recreation Management Program, are collaborating with the county department and a program alumna, Molly Neary, in organizing the event. It is intended to put the focus on the educational, nature-based, health and physical activity options offered by the greenway, which extends for a mile along the Tuckaseigee River.
Activities will include outdoor yoga, guided walks with a birder and botanist, lawn games, a nature art station, sidewalk chalk and a fly fishing instruction demonstration. Live music also will be presented.
