Free admission available for play about baseball’s Jackie Robinson
The play “Jackie Robinson: A Game Apart” will be presented free for Western Carolina University students, faculty and staff at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, in the performance hall of the John W. Bardo Fine and Performing Arts Center.
The play tells the story of the discrimination experienced by baseball legend Jackie Robinson, the first African-American to play Major League Baseball, who was “showered with adulation on the field and became a second-hand citizen when he walked off the diamond.”
The play from Mike Wiley Productions features actor and playwright Mike Wiley. Wiley earned his master’s degree in fine arts at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and has taught at both UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke University.
