Performance by Opera Scenes Ensemble scheduled for Dec. 4

Is the magnet mightier than the sword? Members of the Opera Scenes Ensemble rehearse for an upcoming campus performance.

Students from Western Carolina University’s School of Music will present a performance of the Opera Scenes Ensemble at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, in the recital hall of the university’s Coulter Building.

The 14-student ensemble will present four scenes from the operas “Don Giovanni,” “Madame Butterfly,” “Cinderella” and “Cosi fan Tutte.” All songs will be sung in English, with the performers fully costumed by Pierre’s Costumes of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The event is free and open to the public.

“From madcap comedy to sword fighting to profound musical beauty, these scenes have something for everyone,” said Mary Kay Bauer, an associate professor in the School of Music who is producing and directing the performance.
