Travis Jordan Named Chief Marketing and Communications Officer

Travis Jordan has been appointed to the position of chief marketing and communications officer at Western Carolina University. 

Jordan currently serves as the executive director of marketing at WCU where he oversees paid advertising, social media and web development. A marketing and communications professional for more than 12 years, Jordan will assume his new duties May 1.

“I am excited to welcome Travis to the role of chief marketing and communications officer for WCU,” said Melissa Canady Wargo, WCU’s chief of staff. “Travis brings a wealth of experience to the role and I am confident that he will provide innovative and strategic thinking for the university's marketing and communications efforts. This is a critical leadership position for ensuring the success of Western Carolina University for many years to come and Travis is the right person at the right time.”

Jordan will oversee the development and management of a comprehensive integrated marketing and communications strategy that will coordinate marketing and communications-related activities across the university community and on a local, state and national level. He will be responsible for brand development, brand management, market research and top-level messaging strategy. 

“I am so thrilled to continue serving Western Carolina University in this new role, and continuing the strong momentum we’ve built in just a short amount of time,” Jordan said. “I’m honored to be surrounded by such a talented team of MarCom professionals that are dedicated to advancing the brand and public reputation of WCU.” 

Jordan previously served as vice president of marketing at Enterprise Florida under Florida’s secretary of commerce, a state agency designed to drive economic growth for the state. Additionally, he brings more than 10 years’ experience in the higher education space serving in marketing and communications positions at Florida State University, University of South Florida and the Florida Department of Education.  

He earned his master’s degree in Global Strategic Communications at Florida International University and is certified in digital marketing from Cornell University. He received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Broward College.
