Upcoming Data Center, phone system maintenance to cause outages

The staff of Western Carolina University’s Division of Information Technology will be performing maintenance to ensure the reliability and safety of the campus Data Center from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 9.

During the work, system access will be sporadic or unavailable, with rolling outages of systems throughout the day. Some of the services that will not be affected include Banner, the university’s main website, myWCU and Office 365 (email).

IT staff also will be conducting scheduled maintenance on the main campus phone system from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, March 11. During the work, there will be sporadic campuswide phone and fax outages on the main Cullowhee campus. The outages will be for about 10 minutes several times during the scheduled two-hour period, and all WCU inbound and outbound calling is expected to be suspended during the maintenance. Delays in the work may cause the outage window to be extended.

The phone outage will not affect cellular phones or alarm panels on campus, but it will include the WCU Emergency Communications Center. To report emergencies during the outage, call the WCU center at 828-293-1841 or call the Jackson County Dispatch Center at 911.
