In the College of Education and Allied Professions (CEAP), we are all about making a difference in the lives of others. We endeavor to develop #changemakers who impact the region as educators, administrators, and other professions, both in schools and other professional community settings.
Dr. Roya Scales, Professor of Literacy Education, David Scales, Assistant Professor of Psychology, and Tori Golden, two-time WCU graduate, and current Ph.D. student at the University of Georgia have published the article, Writing for Comprehension: How does Writing Influence Informational Reading Comprehension in the Elementary Classroom.
Dr. Brandy Tiernan, Assistant Professor of Psychology, was awarded a 2021 Brain and Behavior Research Foundation Young Investigator Grant.
The third manuscript resulting from a five-year instrument development project with the North Carolina Outward Bound school was published this summer in the Journal of Outdoor Recreation, Education and Leadership (JOREL).
Dr. Merry Leigh Dameron, Assistant Professor of Counseling, recently published two articles with fellow members of the Urban School Counseling Collaborative.
Project Discovery,~ Talent Search, will receive five years of grant funding, totaling $2.125 million, from the Department of Education.

The University of North Carolina System announced that six System institutions are the recipients of recurring grants from the North Carolina Principal Fellows Program (NCPFP), including Western Carolina University.
The Educational Leadership Program received the University Program of Excellence Award at the annual faculty and staff award ceremony.
