Student Led Activities

In the Philosophy and Religion Department, there are two main student-led activities: The Gadfly and the PAR Book Club.

So, what’s The Gadfly?

The Gadfly is a student-run satire publication based in the Philosophy and Religion department that aims to bring awareness to issues on and around campus through the use of humor, hyperbole, and creativity. We meet weekly with our team of writers and artists to discuss plans, ideas, and current events, and work throughout the semester to put together a professional and entertaining publication that students will want to pick up and read. We typically publish one issue per semester, and will sometimes host events to engage with the community in an often satirical way.”

-Madelin McEuen, Editor of The Gadfly

What about the PAR Book Club?

"We're the Philosophy and Religion Book Club! This is a student-run social organization that provides an accessible space to discuss philosophical and religious texts. We meet bi-weekly on Mondays for philosophical movie nights and discussions of short-burst essays or literary texts. Join us on Engage!"

-Amaranth Schmoyer, Vice President of the PAR Book Club

The PAR Book Club is Open to all, just sign up with Engage! If you are interested in writing for The Gadfly, contact thegadfly@wcu.edu.
