Scholarships


Western Carolina University offers numerous scholarships, both need and merit based, supporting a wide variety student types and fields of study. In addition, WCU’s scholarship support staff work to connect students with state-administered scholarship opportunities and others.

How to apply for WCU Scholarships

  • Log into myWCU 
  • Click the Scholarships tab in the My Financial Aid Status box
  • Click Apply for or Accept Scholarships
  • Complete the General Scholarship Application 
  • Check your myWCU account for any additional tasks (i.e. supplemental responses, essays, letters of recommendation, etc) 
  • Based on the information provided in the application, you will be placed in the applicant pool for each scholarship for which you are eligible.
  • Scholarship committees will review applications for each pool and select scholarship recipient(s)
  • Undergraduate decisions are typically made between March and June 30

Dates and Deadlines


  • The 2023-2024 WCU Scholarship Application and FAFSA both open on October 1, 2022.
  • 2023-2024 WCU Scholarship Application Deadline: February 1, 2023.
  • FAFSA Priority Filing Deadline: January 1, 2023. (Students who wish to be considered for need-based scholarships must file their Free Application for Federal Student Aid in addition to the scholarship application. The federal priority filing deadline is January 1.)
