Advancement office announces holiday hours for year-end giving assistance

holidays on the plaza paws

Most Western Carolina University faculty and staff will be away from their offices for the extended holiday break beginning Friday, Dec. 22, but that won’t prevent WCU’s Division of Advancement from assisting donors with their year-end giving plans through special office hours as the end of 2023 approaches.

Almost all WCU offices will be closed beginning 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22, through 8 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, with the Advancement unit among the few exceptions. Advancement staff members will be available from 8 a.m. until noon on both Thursday, Dec. 28, and Friday, Dec. 29, to help potential donors via phone (828-227-7124 or 800-492-8496) or by email at advancement@wcu.edu. Online giving is also available by visiting makeagift.wcu.edu.

Sunday, Dec. 31, is the deadline for donations to WCU to be counted as charitable gifts in calendar year 2023. Mailed checks must be postmarked and online gifts time-stamped prior to midnight on the evening of Dec. 31. That requirement also applies to qualified charitable distributions (also known as QCD) from an IRA.

Dec. 31 is also the deadline for stock gifts to be transferred and deposited in the WCU Foundation account in order for donors to receive charitable gift tax credit. Most stock gifts take a minimum of three business days to process.

Contributions by mail should be sent to the WCU Foundation at 1 University Drive, 201 H.F. Robinson Administration Building, Cullowhee, N.C., 28723.
