Students to showcase their work at 14th annual Controlled Chaos Film Festival

Western Carolina University’s David Orr Belcher College of Fine and Performing Arts, in conjunction with the School of Stage and Screen, will host the 14th annual Controlled Chaos Film Festival.

The event will take place in the Bardo Arts Center May 5 at 7:30 p.m.

“I continue to be impressed by the diligence, creativity and professionalism of our FTP students,” said Joshua Overbay, director of the Film and Television Production program. “Our first festival featured two films and student classwork. This year, we anticipate more than 20 student films in competition. Our students continue to raise the bar year-after-year, and I'm confident the pattern will continue in 2023.”

Aly Taylor, student festival producer, said, “We appreciate everyone's hard work these last two semesters and are excited to share our films with everyone.”

The festival will present a diverse body of work showcasing the unique cinematic voices of the Film and Television Production program’s student filmmakers as well as the talented students from every program in the College of Fine and Performing Arts – music, art and stage. The films are then adjudicated by film professionals and faculty for inclusion.

From prep to post-production, the selected films can take countless hours to complete. The students must raise money, cast and crew their productions, edit, design and market their films, all while continuing their course work. Proceeds from ticket sales help fund students’ films the following year.

The Controlled Chaos Film Festival is recommended for all ages. Following the festival will be a late-night streaming of Uncontrolled Chaos on the Film and Television Production progeran’s YouTube channel.

Tickets are $10 for students, $15 for WCU faculty/staff and seniors 65 and older, and $20 for adults. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit wcuarts.universitytickets.com.
