necessary to attract the nation’s top talent. There are many ways to give to Pride
of the Mountains.
Roy and Hazel Edwards Scholarship
Endowed through the generosity of Robert Edwards in honor of his parents, this scholarship
provides support for students in WCU's Pride of the Mountains Marching Band. Edwards
served WCU for many years as Internal Auditor and Vice Chancellor for Administration
and Finance.
Eligibility Requirements
- Member of WCU's Pride of the Mountains Marching Band
- A graduate of a high school located in Avery, Buncombe, Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood,
Henderson, Jackson, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Swain, Transylvania,
or Yancey County
- Preference is given to graduates of Smoky Mountain High School
- Good academic standing
- Financial need as demonstrated by the FAFSA in a range exceeding federal grant assistance

Bob Buckner Scholarship
This endowed fund provides program and scholarship support for the Pride of the Mountains
Marching Band. The Marching Band Director will determine how funds will be allocated
in every given year.
Eligibility Requirements
- 3.0 GPA
- Member of the Pride of the Mountain Marching Band
- No sanctions in place at the time of award

Michael Buckner Scholarship
Family and friends of Michael Buckner have endowed this scholarship to support students
who are members of the Pride of the Mountains Marching Band.
Eligibility Requirements
- New freshmen
- 3.0 GPA
- A graduate of Smoky Mountain High School
- Participant in the high school marching band
- Participant in the Pride of the Mountains Marching Band
- Fulltime enrollment (12 hours)
- No sanctions in place at the time of award
