Quick Facts About Coaching

  • Coaching is voluntary. The student initiates and actively participates in the process.
  • Coaching focuses on concrete skills and strategies with measurable goals. Coaches may refer students to campus resources for skill-based training based on their individual needs.
  • Coaches ask questions without judgement. Together, the student and coach design how the student will accomplish their goal and be held accountable.
  • Coaches do not provide therapy to students. To inquire about a counseling appointment with Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), call 828.227.7469 or stop by the office (225 Bird Building). The office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Coaches do not tell the student what to do. The student and coach work through the coaching process together to determine a plan for how the student can make positive changes and progress towards accomplishing their goal.
