Borrow VR Equipment

Oculus Rift is a virtual reality (VR) headset. Connected to a high-end PC, this headset will enable you to move around virtual space in real time. It provides true stereoscopic 3D visuals and utilizes head tracking technology for a highly immersive experience. There are many different games and experiences to choose from in the Oculus and Steam stores.

Faculty, staff and students can borrow one of these systems at the Circulation Desk to facilitate take-home opportunities for experimentation and research. Each system contains the Oculus Rift headset, Oculus Touch controllers, and two positional sensors. Available for a 7-day checkout from the Hunter Library's Circulation desk. After connecting the system components to your computer, downloading the software and creating an account, you can use it for the 7 day checkout period. There are many games and adventures to download for free. On your own device, you have the opportunity to purchase other from the Oculus Rift store.

You will need a powerful, modern Windows 10 computer on which to use the system. You can check the compatibility of your computer using the Oculus compatibility tool. Below are the minimum and recommended specifications (as of July 2018).

PLEASE NOTE: The initial download for the Oculus software is 5 gigabytes. We recommend once you have made sure your computer will support the Oculus Rift that you download the software before borrowing the Rift.
