COVID-19 Update

WCU Research Administration Office remains open. Due to Institutional and CDC guidelines our offices are now remote; however we remain available via phone, email, and Zoom. Please find contact information for all of our staff here. Pre- and Post-award administration is available to assist with external funding proposals and grant management. All new research compliance protocols and modifications are being reviewed, and committees meetings will be held remotely. and are still monitored and fielding inquiries.

Human Subjects Research involving direct contact should be postponed unless the visit provides immediate benefit to the health or well-being of the participant. For approved protocols that involved direct contact, researchers may consider submitting a modification to their data collection method. All forms, including the modification/amendment form, are located on IRBNet under Forms and Templates. Instructions for how to submit a modification to IRBNet can be found under Post-Approval Project Functions here.

About the Office of Research Administration

Research solves real-world problems, increases knowledge, inspires students, and adds to the quality of life. In the Office of Research Administration, we foster and advance research at WCU with the community, region, and university in mind. We help faculty, staff, and graduate students find external funding opportunities, develop fundable research and programs, prepare and submit proposals and manage grant awards in compliance with agency regulations. WCU faculty are invited to apply for "Fundamentals of Grant Writing," a two-day on-campus workshop to develop a grant proposal. Workshop leaders will be Dr. Joanna Downer of Duke University and Nancy Daneau of New York University. The workshop, originally scheduled for May, will be rescheduled for Fall 2020.

Whitehall Foundation offers two grant programs for scholarly research in the life sciences. Deadline for Letters of Intent is April 15, 2020.

NCBiotech's Flash Grant program offers support for creative ideas that have commercial potential. Deadline is April 22, 2020.

The US Commerce Department offers grants to support technology innovation and service to US industry in the following fields: bioscience, chemistry, dimensional metrology, electronics, engineering, infrastructure, information technology, manufacturing, manufacturing metrology, materials science and engineering, nanotechnology, neutron research, optics, and physics. Applications accepted through April 30, 2020.
