Math Placement and ALEKS

NEW STUDENTS

PLEASE NOTE: If you need accommodations, such as extended time, please contact the Office of Accessibility Resources at accessibility@wcu.edu as soon as possible.

If you are a new student at WCU, and you are majoring in one of the Functions Pathway majors, and do not have transfer credit for Precalculus or Calculus I, you should consider taking ALEKS. ALEKS is a free diagnostic to help you (and us) determine which math class you should begin with at WCU. ALEKS checks for your knowledge of algebra and precalculus concepts. Once you have taken ALEKS once, you will be given a score and a personalized learning plan to help you score better if you want to try the assessment again. Studenets who earn certain scores may be able to exempt Precalculus I and/or Precalculus II. Each student in a Functions Pathway can take ALEKS up to five times.

CONTINUING STUDENTS

PLEASE NOTE: If you need accommodations, such as extended time, please contact the Office of Accessibility Resources at accessibility@wcu.edu as soon as possible.
