Career Closet

The Career Closet provides students with free business clothes for interviews, career fairs, formal events, or any career-related functions on and off campus. These items enable students to make the best possible impression and feel confident during a professional meeting.

Black, grey, and navy pants, jackets, and skirts are available. Female presenting sizes range from 2 - 24 (regular), and masculine presenting sizes are 32 x 30/32 - 44 x 30/32 in pants and 38 - 56 in jackets. 

Items are FREE for students. The items must be returned within one week (7 days) by 5:00 pm. If you need to extend the date by one more week, this can be accommodated but must be requested at checkout.

Students can drop by the Center for Career & Professional Development Monday – Friday from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm to shop in the closet. If a student would like a clothing consultation, then appointments can be made through the Navigate System.


  • Students will have one week (7 days) to wear checked out items.
  • All clothing materials must be returned to the Front Desk of the CCPD by 5:00 pm on your specified return date.
  • Charges may be issued if an item is lost, damaged, or returned late.
    • Late Fee - $5.00 per day / per item
    • Repair Fee - $25.00 per item
    • Replacement Fees – Skirts/Pants = $100.00; Jackets = $200.00

Frequently Asked Questions

Students can come by the career center Monday - Friday 8:00 - 4:00 without an appointment to try on clothing. We also offer clothing consultations, which can be scheduled with a staff member, who will give you suggestions on clothing and fit. These can be booked through the Navigate system as an appointment.

If you schedule a 30-minute clothing consultation appointment with a career counselor through Navigate we can provide you one-on-one advice and assistance in picking out an outfit. 

We have black, grey, and navy pants, jackets, and skirts available. We have DKNY, The Limited, Tommy Hilfger, Anne Klein, Kasper, Saddlebred, and Calvin Klein brands.

You could wear professional clothes like suites or dress slacks/skirts to events like career fairs, interviews, conferences, presentations, and many other special events. 

You can keep the clothing for up to one week (7 days). If you need an extended period of time (up to 2 weeks), you can request this at checkout. 

Yes! We will not charge you any fees unless the items are returned late, are damaged, or need to be replaced.

If you return items late, there is a $5.00 per day fee per item. If an item is damaged but repairable, we will charge you $25.00 per item. If the item is damaged beyond repair and needs to be replaced or if you have kept the item longer than 15 days past the due date, you will be charged $100 for pants/skirts and $200 for jackets. These fees will be charged to your student account.

No, you do not need to clean the clothes before returning them. If the item has stains or needs an in-depth cleaning, you will be charged the repair fee. Otherwise, the CCPD will have the clothes cleaned for you. 

Each item is steamed and sanitized before being returned to the rack for future use. All worn items will be deep-cleaned four times a year. 

Unfortunately, we are not accepting clothing donations at this time. We only offer students suit jackets, pants, and skirts, all purchased new. If you want to donate clothing, please consider the following locations in Sylva: Goodwill, Great Smokies Health Foundation, Pathways, Teen Challenge of the Smokies; Baptist Children's Homes of North Carolina
