Michael G. Schallock is Professor of Tuba and Music Education at Western Carolina University where his primary responsibilities include teaching tuba performance studies and supervision of student teachers. He presently serves as Music Education Program Coordinator and is faculty advisor to the WCU Collegiate Music Educators Association. His professional affiliations include the International Tuba Euphonium Association, National Association for Music Education, and the North Carolina Music Educators Association. He is an active member of the Smoky Mountain Brass Quintet (www.smbq.org), recently concluded a ten-year tenure as principal tuba in the Brevard Philharmonic, and has performed with the Asheville, Hendersonville, Blue Ridge, Pensacola (FL), and New River Valley (VA) orchestras.<br><br>Prior to joining the faculty at Western Carolina University in August 2003, Dr. Schallock taught music and band classes in the Pittsylvania County Schools (VA), Henry County Schools (VA), and at Itawamba Community College (MS). He is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi (Bachelor of Music Education), Ohio State University (M.M. in Tuba Performance), and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (Ph.D. in Music Education).
