Video and Photography

Aerial of Campus

The Photography and Videography Services unit is part of University Communications and Marketing and is committed to producing high-quality photographic images and video that support the university’s “20/20 Vision” strategic plan and enhance the recruitment and retention of students.

University photographers and videographers capture images, video and audio of WCU’s people, places and programs to promote the university through its website, publications, promotional campaigns, internal newsletters, social media channels and external news media organizations

What We Do

Shot of students on campus

Our services capture still and moving images of student activities, campus life and athletics events, and showcase the variety of educational opportunities both inside and outside of the classroom.

We produce images and video that are used for various print and online material such as external media, the university magazine, upper-tier pages of the Western Carolina website, social media platforms and various other projects that require high-quality visuals.

We also provide professional headshots for use on departmental websites as well as professional publications. Portraits are made in our photo studio located in 420 HFR Administration Building.

Project Scope

Students on Campus

Our department recognizes that banquets, award presentations, group photos and departmental gatherings are important aspects in the life of the campus community. These opportunities may not meet the criteria of our services, unless the images/video are deemed appropriate for marketing, recruitment or media relations. If time allows, the photographer/videographer may shoot for a fee, or may refer the client to a freelancer.

The Photography and Videography Services unit works closely with colleges, departments and other offices to provide images and video to assist in promoting each unit.

Students on Campus

The photographers/videographer work on a daily schedule that is typically planned in advance. It is preferred and appreciated that photo requests be made with at least a two-week notice if possible.

We understand that some photographic opportunities may arise on short notice and encourage you to move forward in contacting us, knowing that a photographer may not be able to meet your request because of previous commitments.

Any requests for video projects should be discussed with Sam Wallace, Director of Photography and Videography, to be scheduled based on priorities set by the “20/20 Vision” plan and the Integrated Marketing and Communications Plan. The University Communications and Marketing reserves the right to determine if a request is in the best use of the department’s time based on the overall needs of the university.

You can use inMotion to submit your photography, videography, graphic design, social media, website, and paid media requests and questions.
