Social Media Resources

Welcome to the resources hub for social media leads at Western Carolina University! This page serves as a comprehensive toolkit to make you feel confident in managing your area’s social media presence. Some of our resources include guidelines, recordings of past social media meetings, and a social media directory.

Guidelines

We've developed guidelines for best practices for social media account management. It includes tips and tricks on things like setting goals, content, analytics, and more.

Each month, the University Communications and Marketing Social Media Team hosts meetings with those across campus who manage WCU accounts. The goal of these meetings is to help our campus partners navigate the ever-changing world of social media and connect them with others to increase collaboration and amplify each other’s messages.

Past topics include:

  • User-Generated Content
  • Trends
  • Creating Video Content
  • Crisis Communication

Units who are considering starting a new WCU-branded social media channel should begin by submitting a social request. Once the request is submitted, our Social Media Team will meet with you to understand the resources, time commitment, and scheduling processes and planning that should be in place prior to implementing a social media platform on behalf of WCU. We will use this information to decide if opening a new account is right for your unit. Once we communicate a decision, we will help you through the next steps.

University Communications and Marketing's Social Media Team should be granted full access and credentials for any social media site posting on behalf of WCU; accounts will only be accessed in the case of a communications emergency.

Social media accounts that are not documented with University Communications and Marketing should not be linked through the university website or promoted by departments.
