The following note is from a gentleman recently from the Cherokee country, whose memory is at least as good as Col. Nelson's:--N. Y. Journal of Commerce.
Messrs. Editors,---Col. Charles H. Nelson alleges that his severe treatment of the Missionaries was on account of their instigating the Cherokees to rescue them from his power; and as proof, intimated that a gun was fired near Mr. Worcester's for that purpose.
The treatment complained of was endured by the Missionaries in June, and the firing of the gun was in August,---entirely without the knowledge or concern of Mr. Worcester.
Yours respectively,
EARTHERN (sic) WARE.
