Haywood Waterways Association has presented its 2021 Pigeon River Award to WCU for making significant contributions in the protection of water and land resources in the neighboring county.

Starting off the season with the Holidays on the Plaza on the campus of Western Carolina University. We'll be joined by folks from across campus to celebrate all the ways our community celebrates the holidays and ending with our first-ever lighting of the Alumni Tower!

Students Melissa Rogers, Nathan Travis, Emily Ervin, Matthew Tuten, Kylie Conard and Faye Gant presented research projects at the Southern Conference Undergraduate Research Forum.   

Two countries, one literature class, brought together by WCU

Looking for study abroad opportunities in the midst of the pandemic, Brian Railsback, a professor of English, decided to try a virtual study abroad course – but unlike other digital efforts, he wanted to “team up” with a literature class from another country.   

Homecoming 2021 to be ‘Roaring with Pride’

“Roaring with Pride” will be the theme for Homecoming 2021 at Western Carolina University, with a variety of festivities scheduled from Thursday, Oct. 7, through Sunday, Oct. 10. Highlights include the homecoming game against Mercer, performances by the Pride of the Mountains Marching Band, a series of alumni brunches, tailgating parties, and receptions, plus tours of the new, state-of-the-art Apodaca Science Building along with the traditional parade through downtown Sylva.  

Reflecting on Sept. 11

On September 11, 2001, America changed. Thousands of people lost their lives on that fateful day inside the Twin Towers in New York City, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and on a plane in Shanksville, Pa., due to terrorist attacks. In remembrance of the 2,977 lives lost, students and staff from the Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning displayed American flags commemorating those who were lost. Students also reflected on 9/11 and its impact on their lives.
