Western Carolina University is hosting Christopher Reinsch, a graduate student from the Environmental Campus Birkenfeld of the Trier University of Applied Sciences in Germany, for a month-long exchange program with the WCU College of Engineering and Technology.
Reinsch, who is pursuing a master’s degree in applied computer science, is collaborating with Josh Shehan, assistant professor of engineering, on the applied research project “AI-based intelligent additive manufacturing in a networked 3D printer farm.” The focus is on the implementation of artificial intelligence in the college’s Makerspace, a collaborative workspace equipped with 3D printers and other tools and technology.
The partnership reflects WCU’s and UCB’s commitment to fostering international academic exchanges, joint educational projects, and cutting-edge collaborative research between the two universities.
The Environmental Campus Birkenfeld, recognized as one of Germany’s top environmentally-focused institutions, offers exchange opportunities with WCU in computer, electrical, mechanical and industrial engineering.
