The Western Carolina University Division of Advancement is issuing its annual reminder to donors planning to make year-end gifts to the institution about important dates to keep in mind when considering those philanthropic contributions.
The deadline for donations to WCU to be counted as charitable gifts in calendar year 2024 is Tuesday, Dec. 31. Mailed checks must be postmarked and online gifts time-stamped prior to midnight on the evening of Dec. 31. That requirement also applies to qualified charitable distributions (also known as QCD) from an IRA.
Dec. 31 is also the deadline for stock gifts to be transferred and deposited in the WCU Foundation account in order for donors to receive charitable gift tax credit. Most stock gifts take a minimum of three business days to process, so those gifts must be received no later than Thursday, Dec. 26.
Contributions by mail should be sent to the WCU Foundation at 1 University Drive, 201 H.F. Robinson Administration Building, Cullowhee, N.C., 28723. Online giving is also available by visiting makeagift.wcu.edu.
Almost all WCU offices including those in the Division of Advancement will be closed beginning 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, through 8 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2.
The university is in the midst of the “Fill the Western Sky” comprehensive fundraising campaign, an effort to raise philanthropic support for WCU’s academic, student engagement and athletics programs. The third comprehensive fundraising campaign in WCU history, “Fill the Western Sky” is the first with a significant focus on philanthropic support for improving the university’s athletics facilities.
