A Tony-nominated actor and spoken word artist will be making his way to Western Carolina University.

Daniel J. Watts, a Broadway actor who also portrays Bruno Tess on HBO’s “The Penguin,” will perform as part of the Fall Speaker Series on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. at the A.K. Hinds University Center Theater. Admission is free.

Watts, a North Carolina native, has appeared in 10 Broadway shows, including Hamilton and Tina: The Tina Turner Musical as Ike Turner, which he received a Tony Award nomination for.

Along with his role in “The Penguin,” Watts has appeared in Paramount+’s “THE CHI,” Marvel Studios’ “Werewolf by Night” and more. He’s received a regional Emmy nomination, and his TED Talk, “To accomplish great things, you need to ‘let the paint dry,’” has over 450,000 views.

Watts graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in music from Elon University and has served as an adjunct professor at New York University and an artist-in-residence at Arizona State University.

He’s currently preparing for a new musical entitled “3 Summers of Lincoln” at La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego, California.
