Ann Summers, a real estate agent who splits her time between Cashiers and Palm Beach, Florida, is the newest member of the Western Carolina University Foundation Board of Directors following her appointment by the WCU Board of Trustees.
Summers is filling a vacancy created when former Foundation Board member Rebecca Brown was appointed to the Board of Trustees by the General Assembly in May. Summers’ appointment came as part of the quarterly meeting of the trustees Friday, Sept. 4.
Summers and husband Peter created WCU’s George E. and Ann G. Summers Scholarship, which provides support to first-generation undergraduate students, with preference given to those from Western North Carolina. Longtime members of the WCU Friends of the Arts, she and her husband hosted the Palm Beach stop during a 21-city Chancellor’s Welcome Tour designed to introduce Chancellor Kelli R. Brown and her husband, Dennis Brown, to WCU friends and alumni up and down the East Coast.
The Western Carolina University Foundation promotes higher education and supports the enhancement of the university. The foundation’s goal is to aid and assist WCU in its development as a leading educational institution.
