WCU to offer workshop on supporting military applicants

Western Carolina University’s Office of Professional Growth and Enrichment will be offering a workshop “Understanding the Unique Culture of Military Applicants” from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, at WCU's Biltmore Park instructional site.

" The skills corporations indicate are in high demand and the values deeply entrenched in US Military culture are almost identical,” said Briana Ford, workshop instructor and director of WCU's Military Student Services. “But veterans struggle to navigate the civilian workplace and potential employers are unsure how to reach this population or understand the needs as the service member transitions to a new culture and environment that is often unfamiliar and confusing."

This workshop is designed to provide potential employers with a better understanding of the military culture, tools to support veterans with the transition to a corporation, resources to connect with the veteran population and information on incentives for hiring veterans.

This interactive workshop will include information on successfully hiring and retaining veterans, along with resources and tools to promote the transition to a new culture, and provide basic information on incentives for hiring veterans.

The registration fee is $89 and includes a networking lunch following the workshop. For more information and to register, visit pdp.wcu.edu and click on “For Profit and Nonprofit Professional Development Workshops” or call 828-227-7397.
