Wright to present new essay collection ‘Through a Vegan Studies Lens’

Laura Wright , Western Carolina University professor of English, will visit MadStone Cafe and Catching Light Books on Thursday, March 21, to present a newly released collection of essays she edited, “Through a Vegan Studies Lens: Textual Ethics and Lived Activism.”

Laura Wright

The 5 p.m. event will be held in the multipurpose dining area of the cafe/bookstore, which is located in Noble Hall on the WCU campus.

“Through a Vegan Studies Lens” broadens the scope of vegan studies by engaging in the mainstream discourse found in a wide variety of contemporary works of literature, popular cultural representations, advertising and news media. The essays relate to a number of political, historical and cultural issues, including contemporary political and social circumstances, emergent veganism in Eastern Europe, climate change and the Syrian refugee crisis.

The book was published in February by the University of Nevada Press.

For more information about the event, contact the cafe/bookstore at info@madstonecatchinglight.com or 828-293-0741.
