Western Carolina University finance students Justina Owens and Jonathan Holden were among 63 students from 30 institutions who attended a recent financial adviser industry conference presented by TD Ameritrade in San Diego.

They were accompanied by Grace Allen, WCU professor of finance. Along with other attendees, Owens and Holden had an opportunity to connect with financial experts and explore job opportunities during the conference, which brings together advisers, technology providers, asset managers and practice management experts for three days of learning, collaboration and networking.

TD Ameritrade invited undergraduate financial planning students from schools across the country to attend the annual conference. The firm covers travel and hotel expenses for the students and program directors.

“I was so honored to be selected to represent Western at the 2019 TD Ameritrade National LINC conference in San Diego,” Owens said. “This incredible opportunity exposed me to the financial planning world outside of a classroom setting, and I was able to make invaluable professional connections.”

A showcase session featured Ron Carson, founder of the financial guidance firm the Carson Group, speaking on the intangible value of relationships financial advisers provide clients. The closing event was a concert by Weezer, the California rock band known for the hits “Buddy Holly” and “Beverly Hills” and a recent remake of the Toto smash “Africa.”
