Yue Cai Hillon and Mark Haskett were recently honored as Western Carolina University’s representatives on the All-Southern Conference Faculty and Staff Team.

Hillon, associate professor in WCU’s College of Business, and Haskett, who recently retired as the university’s director of photography and videography, were recognized during the men’s basketball home game against Mercer on Feb. 14.

Two representatives from each of the SoCon’s 10 member institutions are recognized annually, with each school making its own selections. All of the recipients share the common characteristics of demonstrated service to the institution and contributions to campus life and the local community.

SoCon officials said Hillon’s courses are built around projects with regional businesses and nonprofit organizations that could not have otherwise afforded professional consulting services. That shared learning experience contributes to economic and community development in Western North Carolina and offers students highly relevant and effective career preparation. She also coaches student entrepreneurs to develop new business ventures and mentors students in a WCU doctoral preparation program.

Haskett, who graduated from WCU in 1987, worked at the university as a photographer for more than 31 years until retiring in January. During that time, he chronicled WCU student-athletes in competition, as well as other students in the classroom and participating in campus life. He also captured achievements and milestones, and casual moments. Haskett was named director of photography and videography in 2014.
