Journalist Rosa Clemente to speak at University Center on Oct. 23

Political commentator, community organizer and independent journalist Rosa Clemente will be Western Carolina University’s Civil Discourse Speaker on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m. in the A.K. Hinds University Center Grandroom.

Clemente, an Afro-Puerto Rican who was born and raised in the Bronx, New York, has dedicated her life to organizing, scholarship and activism. She is the president and founder of “Know Thy Self Productions,” which has produced seven major community activism tours and consults on issues such as hip-hop feminism, media justice, voter engagement among youth of color, third party politics, U.S. political prisoners and the right of Puerto Rico to become an independent nation free of U.S. colonial domination.

Tickets are free and are available at the UC guest services desk.

The event was originally scheduled for Sept. 18, but was postponed due to Hurricane Florence. It is sponsored by the Department of Campus Activities and the College of Arts and Sciences, and supports the OneBook and DegreePlus initiatives.
