Christina L. Reitz
, WCU associate professor of music, contributed two entries to “The Classical Music
Book: Big Ideas Simply Explained,” the 19th volume in the highly successful “Big Ideas
Series.” The collection is published by Dorling Kindersley, a British company under
the parent organization of Penguin Random House. “The Classical Music Book,” released
Aug. 28, examines significant works in the western art canon through the historical
lens of socio-cultural perspectives. The subjects of Reitz's invited entries were
“L’Amour de Loin” by Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho and “blue cathedral” by American
composer Jennifer Higdon.
