ACADEMIC HOMERUN
Western Carolina softball player Kassandra Flores ’18 was named the 2018 recipient of the Sports Medicine Institute Scholarship by Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System in April. Flores was one of 10 postgraduate scholarship recipients for the 2017-18 academic year recognized by the Southern Conference at its annual honors dinner in Hilton Head, South Carolina, in May. A biology and Spanish double major with a 3.93 GPA, Flores has been named a National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division I All-American Scholar Athlete three consecutive years and received the Dean’s Outstanding Scholar Award in 2017-18, an award given to just 31 students out of the nearly 2,000 majors in WCU’s College of Arts and Sciences.
