University retiree group makes gift to General Scholarship Endowment

The Western Carolina University Association of Retired Faculty and Staff recently gave a $500 gift to WCU’s General Scholarship Endowment Fund, to continue making a mark on the institution.

Trustees name performing arts college in honor of late chancellor

The academic unit that is home to Western Carolina University’s programs in music, stage, screen, art and design will be known as the David Orr Belcher College of Fine and Performing Arts in honor of the late WCU chancellor, who died June 17 at the age of 60 after battling brain cancer for more than two years.

Erin West knows the value of a scholarship can go well beyond its dollar sign. A senior in the College of Business, West has received slightly more than $17,000 in WCU scholarships since her sophomore year. But besides helping to pay for her education, the financial support has helped to position her as a student with some cachet, a good bet, a smart cookie who knows a thing or two.
