Bookstore Operations

Due to predicted high levels of traffic, in which appropriate physical distancing may be challenging, masks will be required to enter the Bookstore. Customers, including students, that refuse to wear a mask may be refused service and asked to leave.

If you have any additional questions, please contact the Bookstore at 828-227-7346 or email us at bookstore@wcu.edu.

Residential Students

Residential students (students who will live in campus residence halls) may visit the bookstore to receive their textbooks beginning Monday, Jan 18, 2021. Residential students should follow signage, entering through the side of the building, to go directly to the residential student pickup location.

Although residence hall move-in is delayed, residential students have the option to visit campus to receive their textbooks before the beginning of instruction on Jan 25, 2021. If a residential student is unable to visit campus, they may request shipping for their rental textbooks by using this form.

Shipping is reserved for cases where students cannot reasonably visit campus to pick up their rental textbooks. Please note that shipped materials may take several extra days to be fulfilled by the bookstore, and that national carriers are still experiencing delays with the processing and delivery of packages. Western Carolina University cannot guarantee the timely delivery of shipped materials.

Residential students (students who live on-campus) will pick up their rental textbooks on their scheduled move-in day by following residential student signage at the Bookstore. Students that move-in after the Bookstore is closed should visit the Bookstore when it opens the next morning. Textbooks will be packed in a box using the move-in schedule provided by Residential Living. Residential students that move-in without an appointment will need to follow the commuter process. Students will need their CatCard and University 92# to receive their rental textbooks.

Return mailing instructions are provided in case students are not physically able to return their textbooks later in the semester and should not be used in place of the standard return process. If students are not able to physically return their textbooks the Bookstore will accept mailed returns. The Bookstore encourages students to return their textbooks, if possible, before leaving campus at the end of the semester if the books are not needed for finals or remote instruction. This will ensure a timely credit for the rental return and avoid any potential shipping issues at the end of the semester.

Textbook(s) provided by the WCU Bookstore are rental textbooks and belong to WCU. Rental textbooks must be returned no later than ten working days after the last day of final exams each term. Unreturned textbooks will be charged to your student account at replacement cost. Textbooks returned after this ten-day period will be credited to your student account at ½ the charged amount.

Commuter Students

Commuter students (students who will live off-campus) should visit the Bookstore now to receive their rental textbooks. Commuter students should follow signage and enter through the main lobby of the Bookstore. The Bookstore encourages commuter students to come to campus as early as possible to avoid historically busy service days. Students will need their CatCard and University 92# to receive their rental textbooks.

Beginning January 11th 2021, commuter students (students who live off-campus) will receive their rental textbooks by going to the Bookstore and following commuter student signage. The Bookstore encourages commuter students to come to the Bookstore before January 22nd to avoid historically busy service days. Students will need their CatCard and University 92# to receive their rental textbooks.

Students at Biltmore Park

For students who have opted to have books delivered to Biltmore Park, the bookstore will deliver fulfilled orders on January 21, and then every day during the first week of school. Students may also choose to have books shipped to their home address. Orders delivered to Biltmore Park can be picked up from the 3rd floor information desk. Books will not be available for purchase at Biltmore Park.

Students Not Living Near Campus

Students that are eligible for Rental Textbooks with no in-person residential classes will be able to request that their books be shipped to them. Students will be required to call (828.227.7346) or email the Bookstore (bookstorereport@wcu.edu) to  certify their participation in the remote rental program.

The bookstore encourages students to return their books as soon as possible after the end of classes if the books are not needed for finals or remote instruction. This will ensure a timely credit for the rental return and avoid any potential shipping issues at the end of the semester.
