Bookstore Operations

Due to predicted high levels of traffic, in which appropriate physical distancing may be challenging, masks will be required to enter the Bookstore in Fall 2020. Customers, including students, that refuse to wear a mask may be refused service and asked to leave.

If you have any additional questions, please contact the Bookstore at 828-227-7346 or email us at bookstore@wcu.edu.

Residential Students

Residential students (students who live on-campus) will pick up their rental textbooks on their scheduled move-in day by following residential student signage at the Bookstore. Students that move-in after the bookstore is closed should visit the bookstore when the bookstore opens the next morning. Books will be packed in a box using the move-in schedule provided by Residential Living. Residential students that move-in without an appointment will need to follow the commuter process.

Each box of books will include a return mailing instructions. These instructions are provided in case students are not physically able to return their books later in the semester and should not be used in place of the standard return process. If students are not able to physically return their book, a return shipping lable may be requested from the Bookstore. The bookstore encourages students to return their books, if possible, before Thanksgiving break if the books are not needed for finals or remote instruction. This will ensure a timely credit for the rental return and avoid any potential shipping issues at the end of the semester.

Textbook(s) provided by the WCU Bookstore are rental books and belong to WCU. Rental books must be returned no later than ten working days after the last day of final exams each term. Unreturned books will be charged to your student account at replacement cost. Books returned after this ten-day period will be credited to your student account at ½ the charged amount. More instructions will be provided later.

Commuter Students

Beginning August 10th, commuter students (students who live off-campus) will begin their rental textbook pickup by going to the third floor of the University Center to pickup their personal protective equipment (PPE). Upon receiving their PPE, students will visit a check-out station for 'Rental Textbooks' in the UC. Commuter students must visit this check-out station in the UC before visiting the Bookstore. Visiting this check-out station puts you in the pickup queue and gives bookstore staff time to prepare your books. After visiting the UC, students will then walk to the bookstore and receive their books by following commuter student signage.

To obtain your PPE and begin your textbook rental check-out process, please visit the University Center during these times:

  • Monday August 10th through Thursday August 13th: 10am – 5pm
  • Friday August 14th through Sunday August 16th: 8am – 8pm
  • Monday August 17th through Friday August 21st: 10am – 5pm

Each box of books will include a return mailing instructions. These instructions are provided in case students are not physically able to return their books later in the semester and should not be used in place of the standard return process. If students are not able to physically return their books, a return shipping label may be requested from the Bookstore. For students who have opted to have books delivered to Biltmore Park, the bookstore will deliver fulfilled orders on August 13, and then every day during the first two weeks of school. Students may also choose to have books shipped to their home address. Orders delivered to Biltmore Park can be picked up from the 3rd floor information desk. Books will not be available for purchase at Biltmore Park.

Students Not Living Near Campus

Students that are eligible for Rental Textbooks with no in-person residential classes will be able to request that their books be shipped to them. Students will be required to call (828.227.7346) or email the Bookstore (bookstorereport@wcu.edu) to  certify their participation in the remote rental program.
