Online Exhibit: Dick's Creek: Arrival at Dillsboro

Dillsboro, North Carolina and the Jarrett House.

Horace Kephart began his life in among the Smoky Mountains with his summer of 1904 arrival at Dillsboro, North Carolina. His diary index mentions that he could have obtained his supplies at Dillsboro, a commentary on this modern railroad town. While his personal album contains many photographs of people and places that Kephart visited, Dillsboro is curiously absent from the album. This postcard of the Jarrett Springs Hotel, now known as the Jarrett House, and photograph of Dillsboro are from the Regional Photograph Collection at Hunter Library Special Collections and show what the town was like around the time Kephart first arrived.
