Choctaw Indians. Scarcely ever was there a people moving forward more rapidly in civilization and Christianity, till their political troubles came upon them, and their removal to the westward was agitated. Intoxicating liquors have been introduced in large quantities and urged upon the people, great numbers of whom have been induced to drink. Thus at the very crisis of their reformation the hopes of the Choctaws have been dashed by the overthrow of their own governments and the consequent removal of all restraint on the introduction ' use of intoxicating liquors and by the agitation ' distress which they feel in view of being forced to leave their home and country. Similar discouragement and distress of mind has been brought on the Indians occupying reservations in Ohio and by similar means.--Christian Mirror.
