What You'll Learn
The core curriculum has been designed to teach students about different medical components
as well as developing skills, knowledge, and attitudes with critical thinking, problem-solving,
communication, interpersonal relationships, and inter-professional teamwork. The program will prepare students to recognize the
global nature of health with a special emphasis on promoting cultural competency and
sensitivity for the needs of underserved populations. The different concentration
options allow students to focus on an area of interest such as Health and Wellness,
Health Management, Pre-Athletic Training, or Pre-Professional. This program is also ideal for students who want to focus on prerequisite courses
with the aim of pursuing a professional graduate program.
Where You'll Go
Graduates from the Health and Wellness Concentration will be prepared to pursue careers in Fitness and Exercise Sciences and Community Health Education, where the Management Concentration can find careers in Healthcare Adminstration and Healthcare Operations. Integrated Health Sciences graduates in the Pre-Athletic Training Concentration will be ready to apply to graduate programs in Athletic Training. Students from the Pre-Professional Concentration will be ready to apply to graduate programs in Medicine, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, or Physician Assistant.

More About Our Bachelor of Science in Integrated Health Sciences Program
WCU’s B.S. in Integrated Health Sciences provides students with a broad, flexible foundation for careers across today’s rapidly growing health and wellness fields. The program blends core coursework in human health, disease prevention, healthcare systems, ethics, and communication with specialized study in one of four concentrations: Health & Wellness, Health Management, Pre- Athletic Training (for students pursuing admission into a graduate Athletic Training program), or Pre-Professional (for students pursuing clinical graduate programs).
Through interdisciplinary classes, applied learning experiences, and opportunities for community engagement, students learn how biological, behavioral, and social factors shape health outcomes. Coursework emphasizes health promotion, evidence-based practice, cultural competence, and the skills needed to support individuals, families, and communities in diverse care environments.



Students gain valuable exposure to health-care environments and community initiatives, helping them develop confidence and real-world skills. The program’s flexibility allows students to personalize experiences to match career aspirations.


Concentrations
Covering a broad range of courses, students in the Health Management concentration will study marketing, finance, accounting, and communication as it pertains to the health industry. Students from this concentration may find themselves in positions such as healthcare administration, medical office administration, medical/pharmaceutical sales, healthcare human resource administration, or healthcare operations.
Students who choose the Health & Wellness concentration will focus on health and physical wellness, fitness, anatomy, and physiology. Depending on your career direction, you should consider any prerequisites that may be needed for credentials or certificates. Students from this concentration may find themselves in positions such as health coach, fitness and exercise sciences, health education, or community health education.
Students who are interested in pursuing Athletic Training will foucs on prerequisite courses including anatomy & physiology, chemistry, exercise physiology, physics, and biology. Interested students can also speak with an advisor about the 3+2 option with Integrated Health Sciences and the Master of Science in Athletic Training program at WCU.
Ideal for students who want to focus on prerequisite courses with the aim of pursuing a professional graduate program in Medicine, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, or Physician Assistant. Students in this concentration will choose 16 of their hours based on the prerequisites needed for graduate or professional program admission.
