Western Carolina University's Intensive English Program (IEP) is designed for non-native English speakers who have a strong aspiration to improve their language skills. IEP is useful for both working professionals and students preparing for university study or professional programs.
No matter your skill level our small class sizes allow you to receive individualized attention from experienced faculty who hold graduate degrees in linguistics or language teaching. You'll also improve your language skills outside of the classroom through immersive experiences learning American culture in an inclusive community.
There are three levels of English study: high beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Each level includes instruction and strategies in reading, writing, speaking, listening, grammar, and additional special topics such as literature, film, academic research, and iBT test preparation. You'll receive over 18 hours of in-class language instruction Monday through Friday with many cross-cultural activities throughout your program.
Completion of the WCU IEP fulfills the English language requirement for admission into the undergraduate program here at Western Carolina University. Additional information about the graduate school requirements are available on the admissions page.
