Joshua Russell is an Assistant Professor of Screenwriting and the Film & Television Program Coordinator in the School of Stage and Screen. Over the last ten years, he has taught filmmaking at Columbia College Chicago, Elmhurst College and DePaul University, where he received his MFA in Screenwriting.
Russell has served a multi-year tenure as a judge in the Religion and Ethics division of the U.S. International Film & Video Festival, as well as a number of smaller festivals. He is a highly-awarded independent filmmaker, having received theatrical release for several of his films. He has won awards ranging from “Best Producer”at St. Tropez International in France to “Best Picture” at Sunscreen Film Festival in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Russell’s work has been highlighted in a number of national publications including The New York Times, The Chicago Tribune, Chicago Time-Out and Variety Magazine. He has worked with the late Roddy Piper as well as Robert Carradine, Richard Kind and Nick Turturro.
Russell is the writer/director/producer behind the upcoming feature, Absolution, with stage legend Mike Nussbaum, and YouTube star Luke Conard.
Joshua Russell lives outside of Asheville, North Carolina, with his wife and two boys.
