Biography
Sarah Smith grew up in Indiana and began playing the violin in the 6th grade through her school music program, and graduated from Huntington University in Huntington, IN with a degree in Music Education, specializing in string instruments. Mrs. Smith has been teaching violin and piano lessons for 20 years, as well teaching elementary music in Indianapolis, Indiana, and Middle School Chorus and Drama in Raleigh, NC. After moving to WNC, Mrs. Smith began working with the Voices in the Laurel youth and childrens' choirs as a choral assistant and currently as assistant director. Upon realizing how few opportunities there were for young string players in the area, she joined with Voices to start the Laurel Strings ensemble for young string players. Mrs. Smith has always been passionate about music education and strives to provide the best possible instruction and opportunities for her students. Mrs. Smith lives in Balsam with her husband Ben and their three children Grace, Samuel, and Hannah.
